libbywhippleGrowing up my Dad told me, "Most people can't do most things, so find what you can do and do it  well."  I have found my life's passion in my art.  I thoroughly enjoy the process and have discovered that when you love learning about something, with time you naturally get better at it.

I began painting over twenty years ago while I was in law school.  Today when people hear that I used to be an attorney they are suprised because art and law seem very different.  However, the two fields share some important similarities.  Both require technical knowledge and, perhaps more importantly, the ability to communicate an idea.  In each painting I hope to communicate an idea, a feeling.  That may be the innocence of childhood or how magnificent our world is as evidenced by the beauty of a sunset.

Artists who continue to inspire me include John Singer Sargent, Cecilia Beaux, the artist and philosopher Robert Henri, Richard Schmid - author of Alla Prima, and Jeremy Lipking - a young artist in California.  These artists have had a powerful impact on me and how I see art and life.  In studying their work I am at the same time both humbled and inspired to find my own voice, my own greatness.

My purpose is to celebrate the beauty of life and to keep striving to find my own greatness.  In so doing, I hope to inspire others to do the same.  I encourage you to celebrate life and find your own greatness.  Thank you for supporting fine art.
